Devoted to long ago Clubs, times and players. Feel free to tell us all your old time Brisbane or QLD memories.......
I remember playing for Eagles at the old Mt.Gravatt showgrounds back when half their A Team was in the QLD Team. How times have changed.
Playing V the old Fairfield Athletics ( any older Nilssons out there should remember that Club )... and watching one of the Eagles Seniors throw a bat clear over the Athletics backnet after being struck out ( they shall remain nameless..........)
My first ever Juniors game playing Wests at Heroes Park, Toowong and Lyle Brown I think was Wests U13 Pitcher. I remember because I got hit on the arm at bat my first ever game.
Being bat/ball boy at the old Lang Park Night games.
Attending an U15 QLD trials at All Stars and "Sir Ted" making me do a lap around the whole of Bannister Park.
Main Roads Tigers and Brothers in the Old METRO Division League.
Must be a million other stories out there.......?

I can remember playing on the train tracks that nearly cut through centerfield at i think pine rivers old ground. Not sure though,it was late 70s,I was 8 or 9 at the time. I have lots of storys but will need clerance from old man to release them.

As a kid I remember collecting the foul balls at Lang Park & they were yellow. Also playing on the train tracks in left field at the old Ipswich field plus the non stop kids baseball games that would go all day at O'Grady Park Fairfield while dad played. As a player nothing beat the atmosphere at Spring St Ipwich and the boys on the hill. The North Star lads down first base under the trees at Zillmere were also a lot of fun. I also remember Bernie Pramberg doing his story for the paper while sitting in a van at centrefield drinking beers with Timmy Nilsson. My all time favourite memories were at the pigpen at Holloway Field watching Claxton Shield games and really giving to NSW & Victoria.

I know they played tournaments there ..Might have been 2 fields

Yes the junior field over the creek at North Star had the train track in centrefield. You were not alone, most kids loved playing there because they got to see the trains.

It's really cool that we all said the same thing, how times have changed, i would not let my kids near the tracks now.. Someone tell the ABL that if they want kids to come to games just put an old train in the outfield and do laps from left to right between innings...

How about the old Toowoomba field where there was a hill behind home plate and sometimes you had to scale the hill to retrieve a passed ball.

Nothing can ever beat the old Musketeers field with the pigpen on the rightfield hill and the game having a time out every time a train went past. Doubleheaders every Friday night used to create some atmosphere with 4 teams and their supporters at the one field.
Does anyone ever remember the day Axe caught a train from the previous station and held a derogatory sign out of the window as it past the ground. Mu___t H__d or something similar.
Ipswich were once the powehouse of Brisbane baseball.

That got me trying to remember how many Brisbane "Major A" clubs back in the mid 70's Musketeers, Eagles, Windsor and All Stars always strongest from memory. Plus Wests at Heroes park Toowong + Fairfield Athletics at O'Grady Field. 6 Clubs only ??... am I missing someone from mid 70's Majors ?

I don't know if any of you remember the old "Souths United Baseball Club" playing at the soccer fields at Runcorn. Our senior team at the time were reasonably good from what I remember with Tony Thompson, Ian Thompson and the Howarth brothers to name a couple. The last year of the club would have been about 1977 and I remember playing in the outfield for our one and only junior team. We were getting flogged by whom I don't remember. After trying about six pitchers, the coach at the time Alan Lawnton hand me the ball for my first ever pitch. Although I was a bit eradic, i went on to become a pitcher. I remember the colour were white socks, white pants, white tops with a very small bottle green line on the button hem and bottle green hat with the crossed over baseball bats embroided on it.

I remember playing the old Souths United Club very well on that Soccer field in a game. Just West of current Indians main field. 1973 or so.. I was playing for Mt.Gravatt Eagles first year U13 and we were getting absolutely FLOGGED by the Souths United team... I think I was 2B. I believe my old Mate Jeff Pye was the only one on our team who could pitch and he just got hammered all game.... No one else on our team had a concept or was taught how to pitch back then. No such thing as a Pitch Count either. I remember that most of the good baseball players from Eagles and Souths United were all Soccer players back then. No Coach Pitch back then and no 6 Run Rule and the Souths United Coach ( Don More ?? ) had them start to hit out of the batters box to end the Inning. I remember they had 2 Bros with Blonde hair that were very athletic and good players .. Maybe Twins? BTW. I still have my original U13 Eagles ( Charlie brown style) baseball cap and Eagles Warmup Jacket.

Clubs of the Past
In 1978, All Stars were playing out of Bannister Park Hendra, Wests were playing at Sherwood Park Chelmer, Windsor at Holloway Field Newmarket, Ipswich Musketeers were at Spring Street Ipswich, North Stars were at O'Callagan Park Zillmere. Redcliffe were at Scarborough Road Redcliffe, Mt.Gravatt Eagles were behind the showgrounds in Broadwater Road Mt.Gravatt, Valleys were at Crosby Park in Albion, Wilston Grange were at Hickey Park Stafford.
In 1982, Windsor Royals, Ipswich Musketeers, All Stars, North Stars, Mt.Gravatt Eagles, Wilston Grange and Redcliffe were still at the same place. Wests had moved to Dunlop Park Oxley and Valleys had disappeared. Southside Indians were playing at Ditmar Park Mt.Gravatt, Giants were playing at York Road Ashgrove, QIT were playing at Kedron High School grounds, the RAAF and Tivoli had a team in the competition and Red Sox were at the Clem Jones Sporting Complex Carina.
In 1992,
Wests moved again to Atthows Park Darra, Southside Indians were now at Dew Road Runcorn, Mt.Gravatt moved up to the Gateway Arterial Road, Ipswich Musketeers were at Church Street Tivoli, QIT changed to QUT and shared a field with the Mains Road Tigers at Gaythorne, Redcliffe were known as the Padres and were now playing at Frawley Field Clontarf. Redlands had emerged in Sheldon after a split within the Indians, Logan Sharks were playing out of Meakin Park Kingston, Beenleigh Hawks, Pine Rivers, Caboolture Comets, Toowoomba Rangers, Redbank Rebels and Griffith Dodgers all had teams in 1992/93 season.
Quite a few of these clubs are now gone, but it is great to see most of the clubs have survived so that there is good healthy competition for my son to play against.
Cheers Smithy

Cheers Smithy Seriously great post Smithy. My first game U13 Eagles V Wests was at Heroes Park Toowong , so I must be older than you. I have played V them at all WESTS Parks over the many years. Played for Main Roads Tigers also for a few years and some of my most fun years in the game were with those blokes for sure. Ronny Knight... He his a God in Brisbane baseball and was always a pleasure and a gentleman to play against. ( Last game we both played in, I believe we both had to pull apart 2 blokes that wanted to bash each other in Div1 C grade game... Ridiculous... ) I hated Windsor since 1971 ( and still do .... LOL) but always loved playing V Ronny Knight or catching up with him after the game. Ronny Knight has my respect in baseball forever.
