For the record, I didn't actually say that.

There is no easy answer to this, but if people have suggestions, let's hear them.
Ryn, my response wasn't just to you, it was comment on your post and what I have heard said by people over the years.
AS the old saying goes "life is not fair", so all the complaining in the world isn't going to help. There will always be those who are born with a golden spoon and those who have to fight for everything they get. If your child isn't a "golden spooner", educate yourself about how things work and persevere.

ryn, please accept my humble apologies. As has been pointed out, it wasn't your post I referenced. It appears I am a bit slow too as I didn't get why you said "for the record, I didn't actually say that."

Just back from holidays and catching up..... now for my 2 bob. We as parents get disappointed when our kids dont get the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, and sometimes I have seen parents cast doubts over the system that works okay rather than saying to their child to work harder if that is what you want... to make a Rams team. Isnt that one of life's lessons, be the best you can be.... the harder you work the luckier you get!! Since Luke Prokopec has come to Qld he has improved the system, there are now trials run to locate the talent pool throughout the year, the State titles are an event that are a part of the selection process but not the sole selection tool. They no longer name the state squad at the ST to alieviate the pressure kids feel at the event and also prevent the disappointment at the closing of the event for those who dont make the team. The team is pretty well selected before the ST and the selectors just watch all the games to see players they have not seen and confirm their decisions. Shouldn't that be what the ST are about .... an event for the regions? Remember that when selections are made there are only so many positions to be selected and your child might be number 2 in the State in that desired position... that is something he or she can be proud of.... it is always great if your child can pitch as well as play his desired position to the best of his/her ability. Lastly, I have had kids in the sport for over 10 years and they get most enjoyment out of playing the game for what it is.... a game where your mental and physical skills are put to the test. Gamesmanship and mateship within teams and squads is paramount to their enjoyment of the game. They have suffered their disappointments but NEVER questioned another team mates selection or promotion. HOMERUN..... As a parent I cannot believe you would openly question a childs selection publicly. I know who you speak of and he deserves his selection into the squad, he was unlucky to miss out as a first year and had an unfortunate, untimely injury. It was right that he was chosen! This happens in all sports and particularly the more elite it becomes... injured players worthy of selection are given an opportunity to be healthy to get on the team ... Also in my experience all coaches involved in the ST are primarily interested in winning the thing.... if their players get into the squad great but I dont really believe that thier input was the reason for players making the squad... it was either alot of natural ability or alot of time spent on the ballpark training.

You need to be unbiased and impartial. It seems to be about the how and not the who. 2083 hits says others might want to know more about selection too.
