Hopefully, there are enough little league girls out there......
Baseball Queensland is calling for any Little League age eligible girls (12 and under as at 30 April 2009) to try out for the new BQ Girls Little League Team. This team will compete in the GBL Little League Club Tournament in February 2009 in preparation for the Little League Autumn classic (ANZAC day weekend) where they will wear their state colours to compete against various teams from New South Wales, New Zealand and a very determined BQ Boys team.
The try out/selection session for this team will be held at Carina Redsox Baseball Field, Clem Jones Complex, Zahel St. Carina, on Saturday 10 January 2009 from 9 am to 12 midday.

I agree, its a great concept for the girls. Lets hope they all get behind it it so its not a one off. I know a lot of people are going to be (pleasantly) surprised with the skill that the girls have on the diamond.
I know on the Gold Coast the girls are excited about this opportunity to show their skills. At least half a dozen will be up in Brisbane on the 10th. I have spoken to a few of them over the last few weeks at games and they are all looking forward to it

Is this team playing in the LL state titles? No seriously, only registered Little League “Leagues” (Regions) are eligible to enter the District and National Titles. And as this is a state team, they are not eligible to enter - its a shame though. The girls will still be able to compete in the GBL LL tournament and then the autumn classic and other tournaments as they come up.

A great weekend was had by all both on and off the Field. The girls were on fire. (2 fire trucks were called to cool them down......). All four games were played in a great spirit with some fine baseball from both sides. The girls had a great afternoon of sightseeing on Saturday culminating in a jet boat ride on Sydney harbor.
Lots of friends were made and a big step forward was achieved for womens/girls baseball. These girls are already eyeing off spots in the state and national teams of the future!

An amazing result for them, big thanks to KJ for getting it organised and the other coaches for keeping it going.
All you have to do is read the first sentence of this thread to see how far these girls have come. Well done!

Well done to all the girls, I'm sure we may see them in the Lady RAMS team in years to come. Also well done to Pope and others for getting the girls program up and running.
