Just a note to congratulate Baseball Qld for getting behind the junior girls. Saturday afternoon saw approx 50-60 girls attend a development session-with some girls selected to attend an invitational in Sydney next year. It was fantastic to see all the girls given this opportunity and to realise that there are many other girls playing.
keep up the good work!!!

Yes it was great to see so many girls on the field at once, considering this time last year, they were hoping just to fill one team! The actual selection process for the National Tournament will begin in January (Sat 9th- I believe), The Girls will travel to Sydney on the ANZAC day weekend to compete against the other states (NSW, VIC and WA confirmed), in U12, U14 and U16 age groups. The skills/development sessions will also continue for all the girls from the same date.

Congratulations to BQ and others for keeping the ball rolling with this development path for the junior girls in our sport. Finally, there is something for them to aim for and be rewarded for sticking with the sport of baseball!! Hopefully this will encourage girls to play and remain with baseball instead of the traditional shift away to softball as has happened in the past. This is the only way that we can build a strong women's program in this state. BQ have to be careful, though, to keep this for BASEBALL girls and not others who opt to play another sport week to week and just waltz into the Qld girls rep team whenever they feel like it. This already happens with our Women's team....don't let it continue with the next generation.

The girls are still turning up each Saturday afternoon. It's great to see 52 girls will be going to Sydney. KJ & co are doing a great job with the girls. You can certainly see the benefits of bringing these girls together. Although some may be the only female in their club teams, they now know that there are many girls out there. Keep up the good work....

BQ are sending 49 girls this Friday to Sydney to play in the Girls Friendship series starting on Saturday. The girls have been training for this series since the start of the year. Qld will be fielding teams across 3 age groups (12's, 14's and 16's). Each team will play six games over 3 days. Looking forward to seeing some great baseball played by the girls. I am sure they will fly the maroon flag high for all!

Congratulations to all concerned with this program. Girls make up 50% of the potential sporting population. Softball has already worked out that they can get a bigger share of the market by recruiting and promoting boys softball. Baseball needs to recruit and retain the girls that want to play our sport.
The numbers have grown significantly since last year. Great to see more than 15 clubs represented in this group. If your club is not on this list...ask why!!

Congratulations and a big thank you to Kevin and the team of dedicated coaches who have given up many weekends to foster and encourage these young ladies in developing their skills. The excitment was very obvious at Tuesdays final training session and I for one am glad I will not be on the flight to Sydney. I will be at the other end to capture the arrival.

I for one am glad I will not be on the flight to Sydney. Yeah, you would need to be a saint to handle that flight. I wonder if being a Pope would be enough?
