Baseball Queensland has developed a completely new concept for senior baseball’s highest level in the State.
This season (08/09), having had 13 teams in a North/South draw has been cumbersome to say the least.
The round robin qualifying round will consist of 15 teams (13 current Major League teams from 08/09 plus Carina and Toowoomba) playing each other once in a qualifying round to determine the Major League (top 8 teams) and Pacific League. (7 teams) The qualifying round will run for 71/2 weeks.
B Grade will play for the Commissioners Shield during the qualifying round. (1st past the post)
Under the new concept Major League and Pacific League Clubs will play 42 games in A Grade and 28 games in B Grade.
To qualify for the Major League after the qualifying round has been completed, Clubs must have satisfied the BQ criteria by 1st October 2009.
Clubs wishing to participate in the Major and Pacific Leagues will need to field 3 teams in the 2009/2010 competition with the Major League and Pacific League being made up of A and B grade.
BQ is giving Clubs the option of placing their 3rd senior team in a competition below the Major and Pacific Leagues ie: Minor League, Masters etc.
Further detail regarding the make up of the Masters and Minor League competitions will be available as venues and timing are confirmed.
It is envisaged that the competition will commence on Sunday 13th September. (2009/2010 draw attached)
There are 2 Super League week ends scheduled for the 2009/2010 season, one in November and another in February.
The Super League will be made up of two teams from the North of Brisbane and two teams from the South of Brisbane.
Games will be scheduled for these weekends after feed back has been received from players and coaching staff.
The 4 team concept for the Super league is to enable those teams an amount of flexibility in maintaining a roster of players given problems with availability in the past.
BQ is confident that sponsorship agreement(s) will be in place for the 2009/2010 Super League with prize money allocated to the Champion Super League team.
Early notification of the 2009/2010 season format along with the draw and the Club review is an initiative of Baseball Queensland to give every club the best possible notice and assistance to be compliant for the start of the season.
Yours Sincerely
