Is it possible for BQI to put out a calendar at the beginning of the season, noting game days, start of season, end of season, finals format, Claxton Shield game days, date, place of Junior and Senior All Star games, date and place of Commish Cup games, date and place of end of year presentation, with qualifications for each. As it is, we're in the dark from day one. Schedules come out a week or two before the season, All Star games are announced, then cancelled, then put on again, then postponed.
Once the dates have been established, then, if it is too much work for the one office, why not allocate an event for clubs that nominate. It could be that Club XX has asked to host the Junior All Star games, another the Commish Cup, another the pre-season tournament, finals, claxton shield games, visiting tours, etc. (This would be awarded to the hosting venue months in advance of the season).
At the beginning of the season the club responsible would know the date and would be able to plan accordingly -- publicity, media coverage, fields, extra benefits (Bring in Manny Ramierez to throw out first pitch), web site, etc. If we spread the work around, allocating our many events to a number of interested clubs, then the load would lighten and clubs would develop an ownership for the events -- if even for the one season. We might even find that we have the ability to create more events -- midweek games/tournaments?
Any thoughts?

Snoball, In a perfect world yes, it would be nice. Request, if my spelling and grammar is incorrect, ignore the mistake.
The QBUA is looking at changing it's Level One Seminar to a period a few weeks after the season finishes, around late April. The reason for this, is to capture the interested people while they are still in the baseball mood.
We usually run the seminar in September, as close as we can to the beginning of the season. September was usually a time when their could complete the seminar, then go out onto the field and practice what they have been taught.
The new accreditation requirements that BQI has put in place, that Level One umpires do not need the FULL ABF ACCREDITATION requirement to umpire Major A.
We are also looking at a smaller seminar in September, this is to make sure that everyone who wish to umpire Major A games in the following season, have their levels assessed and updated, if necessary.
It's difficult to work out when the majority of the interested parties would like to do the seminar. This forum may give us a better idea of their thoughts.
We, the QBUA and the BQI will be looking at the calendar for the year's 2008 and 09 and looking at where we can fit.
With regard to Level O seminars, in the past club's would ring the QBUA and request and sometimes demand a level O course on such and such a date and time. We tried as hard as possible to accommodate these request, however, that put a great demand on the instructors and the organization of such a course.
As of Now, the 20th January 2008, the Level O courses will be held in regionals. Club's from the region will have to attend the course on that date, time and field allocated to that region.
I would be interested in the responses to the QBUA holding their Level One Seminar around April.
