This forum has been dormant for a while, so here's a situation to blow out the cobwebs (and see if anyone's still reading!)
Runners on 2nd and 3rd, less than two outs.
BR bunts down 1st base line and R3 gets into a rundown between 3rd and home. Meanwhile R2 has gone to 3rd. R3 successfully makes it back to 3rd.
What's your call in the following scenarios?
A: F5 tags R3 - who then steps off the base and jogs towards the first base dugout - and then tags R2.
B: F5 tags R2 then R3.
C: Following on from A, after a few steps, R3 heads for home, touches the plate and then goes to the dugout.

A. R3 is not out on the tag, although he is heading for an adbandonment call. R2 is not not out on the tag because R3 is not on it at the time. R3 is safe at the plate and toss the defensive manager because he is going to lose his mind when he realizes he has a run in and a new R3, no out counted. B. R2 is out, R3 is fine.

I believed that the forum had been shut down, lucky I had another look to see.
Nice to see Bobby and mistaylor back.
I agree with mistaylor's calls, except for the dumping of the manager so quickly LOL. Hope you don't mind if I add to it for you Bobby and anyone else interested.
1: OABR 7.08 (a) (play 2) (page 46) Runner is Out When: (for everyone's benefit, you have to look it up)
In both senarios, I would hope that the umpire would come up with a timely and loud call to inform everyone involved of exactly what is the call on the Runner.
We now think about how far the Runner moves and direction, to call abandoning the bases, usually about 2 to 3 body lengths, or a compatable distance to the grass on a cutout infield, it is a judgement call, so not set in stone.
To make an accurate call, I would need more information or to see the play, however, your information has given us enough to make a call, and to find and examine the Rules once again. 2: OABR 7.03 (page 43) Two Runners on Base: (for everyone's benefit, you have to look it up)
Once again, I would expect the umpire concerned, who has the call, to make a timely and loud call on the plays involved, as the timimg of which Runner is tagged compared to the other is very important.
For the purpose of teaching: With these plays described; The BASE umpire has all the calls on the plays at third base. Plays at 3rd, back into 3rd, between 2nd and 3rd, and rundowns to the cutout at home plate until the plate umpire accepts some responsibilities The PLATE umpire has 1. the touch at 3rd base if the runner's are advancing to home plate, it would be only R2 in this case. 2. Plays at the plate 3. Rundown responsibilities between 3rd and home. (communication to base umpire on which part of the rundown distance the plate umpire is accepting is very important. "I have the lot, or, I have this half, or, I have this end[meaning the cutout to the plate].) This communication now lets the base umpire know exactly how much of the field their have to cover and what plays they have the responsibility of the call. In saying this, there are exceptions to the responsibility rolls depending of exceptional circumstances, such as a play happening infront of an umpire who technically does not have the pre-communicated responsibility. 4. Ball out of play.
thankyou for your time.
