What was the criteria for grounds hosting finals?
No disrepect to Eagles, but with 1 team in 6 possible grades and they get a grand final day?
But the Majors are back at Windsor again. They had Claxton, but its a good field with proper bounce and grandstand.
Understand the need to share finals and income generated around. But this is THE GAME of the year and minors players dont get to play on the best grounds in Brisbane.
Is this another case of the minors being forgotten about? Surely there is nothing on at Redlands, Padres, Beenleigh, Pine Hills, even Carina. all with cut out diamonds and grandstands or didnt these committees want finals?

Eagles have as much right as any GBL club to apply to host finals and they have worked hard to gradually build their numbers this year to include a junior side as well as a senior side. Probably, BQ wants to reward their efforts and encourage them to continue as I hope they do. I agree with Overit, however. Without trying to demean the efforts of the volunteers at Eagles, I was there earlier this season for a Minors game and the infield was overgrown with grass and weeds and left a lot to be desired. Our players even commented on what a shame it was when they had built a brand new infield in recent years. I wonder if anyone from the office has even been to this ground? Can't imagine that BQI would have made a decision on the Minor Grades finals without thinking it through properly...no!!! They can't say that other clubs didn't bother to apply to host these finals as I know that they did.

True - it should be shared if possible - but keep in mind all decisions made are based on who applies for the finals and then is reviewed based on the field condition, the venue, its location and so on. I dont think clubs are looked negatively upon by bqi - i believe that when it comes to finals and hosting it comes down to the overall viabilty of a club to host a major event.

Let the highest placed team in any final host the final at their grounds. There should be some reward for finishing higher than other teams. There's no need for a "neutral" ground. If you win, you host.

Great idea Snoball except BQ want to keep all grades in each competition at the same venue for Grand Finals.

Yup, I understand that, but don't see the need for it. Let each host club reap the benefits of the good season and put on a great day for their Grand Final. That would allow them to host their supporters, sponsors, local politicians, former players, etc., with their club reaping any benefits via canteen or publicity. I think all clubs are up to it and deserve the opportunity. But, like you say, BQI want all teams together. Why? Who knows, that's the way it's always been.

So, apparently, there's a new wet weather procedure.......
The SQBL Semi-Finals to be played on Sunday were washed out on Friday afternoon. Usual wet weather procedure is for the ww contact for the host club to call visiting teams' clubs' ww contacts and thus the message is reliably passed on.
Did this happen on Friday? No. An email was sent from BQI to club secretaries on Friday at around 4.30pm and a post was put onto this website's home page, presumably around the same time.
Our club was involved in one of those games. Our Secretary was busy on Friday afternoon/evening and missed the late email. He doesn't usually check the emails on Saturday as there are rarely official baseball messages sent then. Luckily, one of our club members noticed the post in the news section of the website on Saturday morning and we were able to let the team members know.
Why were the clubs wet weather contacts not notified ....or was it just our club? How hard is it to make a few phone calls?? Very hard if you want to get out of the office before 5pm, I guess!!!

So now the finals have changed again.
Its now a 3 week series, pity those who have already organised events and paid for them, as end of season celebrations for Monday the 22nd. May not know if we need to cancel those events until 4pm 21 March.
There goes the deposit.
Not to mention children's birthday parties for the 28th.
"Yes dear, the season will be over, we can have little Johnie's birthday on that day, tell the grandparents from interstate its ok to book flights its finally on the BQ website. The GF is booked for 21st." - that was last week! - hello couch tonight!
Its ok if we dont make it, but if we do, Can BQ ring my wife and explain the change? Will they reimburse the deposit we could loose? and speak to 11 guys bosses about changing their day's off?
Do they also realise the SQBL Semi at Redcliffe will have to be on the 2nd Diamond, whilst the Majors Semi is on Diamond 1.
Why cant this game be played at 9am, like every other SQBL A game this year?
Only 3 weeks left then its golf. Saturday comps run properly.

Overit...BQ have rescheduled the SQBL A grade semi at Padres to 9..0am to allow play to be on the Main Diamond. This will be better for the players, spectators and volunteers.
Also, the Minors teams all have their three week finals series as they wished....now the rain just has to stay away. Thanks to BQ for listening!

I was always taught not to expect accolades for merely doing your job. Anything above and beyond, sure. But not for what you're suppose to do.
But, I've always been politically incorrect.

Considering the recent weekend passed was a total washout for SQBL finals start, I think BQ have done a great job re-evaluating the situation quickly to get finals series back on track.
You can only play the cards you have in front of you.

The SQBL A grade finals, were to start this weekend.
The format was knock out. You loose you gone...
Its great they listened and changed the finals, but 6 days before the finals start, nearly 3 or so weeks after the finals series format was set. People made plans and booked events which now have been rescheduled after nights slept on couches and begging for deposits back.
Why wasn't the finals series set at the start of the year?
