For anybody who is interested in baseball during the off-season, Griffith University having its club sign on day next Wednesday at Nathan Campus. Throughout the off-season the team trains on a Saturday and plays regular games against UQ, QUT as well as a couple of teams from the summer Brisbane league. For students, there is also a chance to compete in the Australian University Games in September. Last years fee's were $20 a semester for Griffith students and $30 a semester for non-students and will probably be the same this year. Sign on dates are: Wednesday, 24th of February at Nathan 9am-2pm Tuesday, 2nd of March at Mt Gravatt 10am-1pm Thursday, 4th of March at Nathan 9am-2pm For enquiries email s2720311@student.griffith.edu.au

QUT had a team at the start of 2009, (QUT Ravens) but couldn't field a team in the second semester. Jared Long tried to get one together and I think came 1 or 2 players short of fielding a team in Australian University Games.
QUT, UQ and Griffith have a lot of international students (East Asians, Canadians and Americans) and the numbers can fluctuate and the team managers change a lot. Give guildsports@guildonline.net an email, if they have a contact they'll know.

QUT has struggled for the past few years to get a team together. The last time we sent a team to University Games was Gold Coast 2007, and even that was a patchwork team which ended up coming last.
I know nothing of this 'QUT Ravens'....who ran that?
If anyone from QUT is interested, I dare say it's on you to get a team together. There probably won't even be a contact unless someone puts their hand up. Also, talk to me as I still have the gear from a doomed attempt to get a team to Melbourne in 2008.

hi all, i have just moved to the gold coast and i am keen to play baseball. skills are a bit rusty as i haven't played for about 10 years. played for willoughby wolves/north syd bears as a youngster though. i am at griffith uni (gold coast campus). is the griffith team based in brisbane or is there one on the gold coast too? someone has suggested joining surfers paradise club instead. what are the pros/cons of joining a local team vs university team? any thoughts?

Welcome to QLD bunghole.. does that mean you are now a canetoads fan in the State of Origin footy???... hahaha. My opinion is you are better off joining a local Gold Coast baseball club with a seniors team in a grade that suits your standard. You can still participate in a Uni team also if they have one. There are several clubs on the Gold Coast, Maybe contact the GCBA or Baseball QLD for contacts. This summer season is almost over but Gold Coast have Winter ball also.

cheers all, negative on the canetoads, new south all the way, seems to be a one-toad race of late though. tahs over reds any day too pretty keen to get into anything, managed to get my timetable down to 3 days/week so would be sweet to mix it up a bit and play some ball. old man and uncle went to canada and gold coast for the masters so its time to put an end to a 10 year spell and get back into it. also, are there any gear shops in se qld? brought my mitt up but no bat, shoes, etc

I personally don't know of any on the Gold Coast but best 2 Baseball stores in Brisbane would be Fielders Choice ( Southside) and Leading Edge Sports (Northside)

You have to go north for descent gear. The so called sports stores are pitiful in the baseball stock they carry.....

fielder's choice isn't too far away, might sus it out on the weekend. are there any classifieds anyone knows of for 2nd hand equipment?

Leading Edge has a store at Downey Park, that's a little closer. Ebay is good for second hand equipment, I just picked up 30 used balls for practice for $30 from the Gold Coast A little fishy, but otherwise good value
