23-13 loss today to Vic Blue. There was a strong wind blowing out today which was a bonus to hitters but bad news for pitchers. We jumped out of the boxes scoring 5 runs in the top of the 1st but the vics replied with 4 and that set the tone for the next few innings. The score was 12 all going into the bottom 5 before Victoria exploded with 9 runs. Some sloppy fielding (6 errors)contributed to the scoreline and that was probably the difference today. As said it was a day for hitting with Matt Corbitt, Ryan Battaglia(3) & Jake Cole (2) all hitting home runs and Dan Nilsson hitting 2 doubles. Game against Vic White tomorrow at 1.30pm.

I would suggest that having two teams for 14.s 16's and 18's is a way of curbing the trend of declining numbers of juniors to seniors. Picking one team based on a given set of trials or single championship meeting may sound great. However a player only needs to have one off day at these meets and they miss selection.
Give juniors an opportunity to perform and a goal to aim for as well as the opportunity of experiencing major championships. If only a small number of kids get an opportunity at top level and these kids aren't staying on at senior level then broaden the intake and work with the kids that do value the opportunity and want to progress.
Don't forget kids mature at different rates, so a kid who looks like a gun today may have peaked early whilst in fact a fringe player may just kick on pending their physical and mental development stage. Under the current Qld system this kid has the most to offer but is going to get overlooked given the limted space on a single team.

I agree RM44. Most of the current 14s and 16s probably wont get to play at Nationals for another 2 years (ie until they are 2nd years in the next age group). Long time to keep a kid interested after giving them a taste of playing at this level. What about 2 teams, a 1st year team and a 2nd year team. Our 2nd year team would then be much better prepared, it would give the "fringe" players an opportunity as there are a few 1st years playing now. It looks like the Vics have done this with their 14s white and blue teams?

The pool games have finished and Qld finished in the bottom half this year with Victoria blue and white and Country NSW. Qld are playing now to come 5th.
NSW, SA, Territories and WA are in the top four.

Exciting 4-3 extra innings win today. In the bottom of the 11th with 2 out James Baker walked, Jace Cole pinch ran then he was brought home by a double to Matt Corbitt who continued his oustanding tournament with the bat. Qld used 4 pitchers who all pitched well, Starter Shannon Mills threw 7 innings, Lucas Bakker, Jason Kilby & Ryan Schoenberger. Best hitters today were Matt Corbiit with 3 hits and Nick Paine also with 3 hits

Final game was a convincing 9-4 win against vic blue to give Qld 5th place. Starting pitcher Lucas Bakker was again impressive as was TJ Nicholson in relief with Jason Kilby throwing the last inning. 5 players had 2 hit games but Dan Nilsson topped the team with 4 hits including a 3 run home run.
