Was told at training tonight that our fee's will be a tad over $500 this year. I figure i will have 13 or 14 starts this season so that will cost $35 to $38 to play a game, plus travel cost..Anyone paying more? This is for A grade only.

Musketeers seems to be a bargain to play at after seeing some of the prices on here. We get charged $300 for the season, no extra costs.
I don't know about you 17, but $200 less a season would add up over time. I agree with Ryn, what is this money going towards?

Looking at the Pine Hills site. Fees are $395 with no extra weekly fees. I believe Seniors that also Coach a Senior or Junior team get a discount on this.
Once you take out the BQ and Region fees that all clubs must pay. $500+ does seem a lot.
All Clubs have varying costs i'm sure, Lights, possible ground lease costs, field maintenance, admin and amenities, new equipment costs will vary from club to club.
At the end of the day clubs can charge what they want and players are free to choose.
Free market and capitalism is a wonderful thing.

there's been a bit of a hoo-ha at redlands over the fees, which went from a flat $355 to $435 + $10 per home game (about $550 in total). it's a bit hard to justify that sort of increase but I guess clubs have to do what they can to survive.
one of the players telephoned every sports club within 10km & asked for the fees. I think it was the local afl club that had the highest at $250. all the other sports were less than that. I think some players will be priced out of baseball with the surge in operating costs (that the clubs are passing on to players) which is a real shame. .
I wonder if there has been player movement between clubs based on fees charged? I know redlands is down to senior 3 teams from 6 last year. are any other club up/down from last year?
it will be interesting to get the total number of teams actually playing (compared to last year) once the minors draw is released in the next few days to see if baseball is expanding or contracting in brisbane. I know one of the rep sides did not submit a team in the under 18's comp last weekend, which is probably not a good sign.

i bet the extra fees on those clubs around $500 would be getting split up and put towards making juniors fees cheaper.
man i was spewing at just under $400.

Having just moved from interstate, I am surprised at the fees being paid in Qld. I played last year and my fees were $150 for the season, flat rate. There was also a $35 charge for the playing shirt (one off charge only if you didn't already have one) but there were no match fees. All our games were Sunday during daylight hours and so there were no lights charges. This is the cost for the Summer competition and daylight savings gives you a lot more playing time late Sunday afternoons. There is also a winter competition and it is mostly played under lights. I'm not exactly sure about the costs this year but it is usually around the $200 mark, flat rate.
When I left there was talk that each team would be charged $20 - $40 per game to help cover the umpire charges, but this is per team, not per player. I'm not sure if they implemented this or not.
I'm not surprised that there is a difference in the charges, but it is very surprising that there is such a big difference in the charges. Makes me wonder where the money goes?

Yeah, I thought ours were bad but looking at some other clubs...
What portion of that is going to BQ, insurance etc? And how much of it is going into maintenance of the club/facilities?
Thing is, a few years ago I walked down the hill and signed up to play soccer, just over $200 plus ref fees. $50 for boots courtesy of Nike Harbourtown and I'm set for the year (2 in fact). Compared to the several hundred dollars worth of baseball gear sitting in my garage.
I guess I'm just wondering where baseball manages to find these costs, when other sports seem not to.

I just checked the BQ website. A senior player is charged $120 to play in Brisbane and an U8 pays about $60. This covers BQ fees, ABF fees, insurance and GBL fees. Outside Brisbane a senior doesn't pay GBL fees so they pay $109.

If you think baseball is expensive, you may want to look into what men pay to play hockey in Brisbane. Try looking at close to $700 for a season and that has been that way for some seasons.
