Just wondering what is happening with a winter competition this year? What teams will be available? Is it a separate Gold Coast comp or will there be a combined comp like last year?
Cheers

Cheers I would guess like previous years gold coast will have there regular comp. last year, some Brisbane teams requested to play in the GC comp, and I guess that option would still be available, but they would need to approach GCBA

Just a thought that I would like to put out in this forum regarding winter baseball. If the sport of baseball in Brisbane is to grow in numbers, surely it is time to implement some major changes. One of the changes that I see is to change the competition to a winter season. The GBL and Brisbane regions are the only competitions played in Queensland in summer, that I am aware of. I have attended a few games this year and keep hearing the same story "its to hot" not only from players but also from the few spectators that do attend. Also by changing to winter there probably would be less washouts, and the possibility of attracting cricketers to the game. There still could be a summer competition, but this should be a night competition, strictly A grade, 8 teams and played on Friday /Saturday or midweek nights.

Baseball in the winter? First thing is you will loose 50% of the juniors to footy.

Baseball is a summer sport, keep it that way, the numbers you'll gain from cricket you'll lose to soccer, aussie rules, hockey, rugby league and union.

Having a 8 Team Senior only comp seems OK.. except.. what fields In Brisbane .. I'm sure our club would have some seniors interested but our fields may need a break over winter or used for Junior Development Programs. I'd say a Seniors Winter Comp would be an amalgamation of players from various GBL clubs to play Winterball.

Seniors in winter big no no!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe if you had a winter competition not so much focused on the clubs winning but a social competition. Maybe like the industrial league where different businesses can put in teams and they draft players or something like that for players to keep their skills up. But summer seniors all the way!

I agree 100% with the thread starter. Baseball should be played in Winter.
Juniors in Summer, Seniors in Winter and the National League in Summer. I know way too many players who have left the game only to realise there is a better life on Sundays in Summer. Senior Cricketers would come in droves to play the game. Too many times in Summer do Proffesional players come back for a short stint only to leave before the finals leaving teams who were competetive struggling to win games in the finals. In winter, you'll have the same bunch of blokes all season. But no doubt things will never change and thus the game won't grow.
