I can't ever recall there being a U23 state titles, but there has been one announced for the weekend 12-14 February. I wonder if Brisbane South and Brisbane West will get a team together? Far North Coast would be pushing for numbers as well I'd assume. Edit: Not having a go at South or West! Was just curious

I think it is great and gives an opportuntiy to players within that age group to play more games and be seen for selection for the Qld U23 Team.
I can speak on Brisbane South's behalf and we will have a Team! The Only Reason Brisbane South didnt have a team in the 18s was because we lost around 12 players going from 16s to 18s this year for numerous reasons! However i believe in the last few years before now brisbane south had one 2 out of 3 U18 State Championships?
These Players are all eligible to play in this Tournament.

I think the under 20's comp might be doing damage to the under 18 State titles. There would be players who are 18/19 years old playing club ball keeping potential Under 18's out of a spot.
Lets say I'm a 3rd basemen since under 14's or so but when it comes time to play Under 20's 3rd base is taken but a 19 year old who has played for Queensland, more experience and is better. I can understand why he is 3rd base, but when it comes for me to put my hand up and try out for 3rd base for Brissy South Under 18's, I'm not competing against any 19 years olds there but have to in club ball.
If you are going to have representative teams, they should be consistent with the regular season competition. Either have under 18 competition with under 18 state titles, or under 20's comp with under 20's state titles. Mixing the 2 keeps players out in my opinion.

What if you're the best third baseman in your age group, but a guy who is a year older than you has played 3rd base for Queensland. You'd dip out every second year.
So therefore we should have U13, U14, U15 etc At the end of the day, if you're the second best player in the team behind the best guy who plays your position, it would be highly doubtful that you wouldn't make the team.

I agree with you in that regard but at least you are being kept out of a spot by someone who is also in competition with you for the same representative team.

Well I suppose. However, by the time you reach U20's, you have a chance to play seniors and would be playing in your suited division. I can see your point snoochie, but I think that there are plenty of opportunities to play where you want or perhaps adapt to a different position. Increase your skill set

Snoochies, the Under 20 comp was created as many clubs in Brisbane were struggling to field a team of Under 18s. This would still be the case. I know of at least three on the North side of the river that need their U20s to make up the number.
Are you saying that the U18 third baseman would not be competitive at Regional trials because he doesn't play in that position at club level? Highly unlikely as I think that you could have your pick of positions if you tried out for Souths U18s!!! (Sorry Nutz!...by the way, BN won the last two State titles)
Also, the U18 third baseman will get his opportunity next season when the 19 year old moves on!

What I am saying is that it would be better to have a state competition that is consistent with the club competition. Just my opinion.

This is my personal posting.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but has there been U/23 weekend competitions every easter for the last couple of years. I know the ABF runs some during the year, maybe they are at easter. I do know that about 4 years ago, there was a comp run by the BQI at easter, and then the ABF picked up on the idea, "my belief"
As for making teams, what ever happened to achieving the position, no matter what age. If a second year, is it automatic that you would make the spot. There is alot to be said for SHADOW PLAYERS, or players who assist the side playing, as a lot is learnt from sitting on the bench, or at training, or down at the ball pen. Alot of people don't listen to conversations, or general talk around the place, you can learn alot from it, if from the right person.
something to think about.

U23 Nationals have been held at Easter for quite a few years now that I can remember. I have also been involved with a region for a number of years and can't recall an inter-regional U23 tournament like this in recent times.

Not sure where you getting your info from wild pitch. My son was a member of the Bris South U18 team last year as a 2nd year and the year before as a 1st year. The Bris South U18 won the state titles both years in a row guarantee as he was a member of this team and the medallions are hanging in his room lol

Hi baseballparent...perhaps we are talking about different championships? The 2009 title (September just gone) was won by BNR coached by Ron Nilsson and the 2008 title was also won by BNR coached by Dave West. I believe the previous title played in September 2007 was won by Souths. Does that fit in with your info? I was also involved with both teams having kids playing for both.

I see the weekend of the U23 state titles the seniors have a bye due to clubs losing players for the tournament. What about the U20 comp for that weekend, shouldn't they have a bye also, or are there no U20's playing in the state titles?
