Has anyone heard anything about the change in venue for the 2010 U-14 Nationals? Apparently Ormeau diamond 2 didn't pass muster and they are looking at Beenleigh's Hammel St. Ground. Any more input?

From the ABF website: 2010 Under 14 National Youth Championships - Change of Venue Cassandra Sedgman, Wednesday, 23 December 2009
IMPORTANT NOTICE: RE: U14 National Youth Championships
The ABF conducted their final facility inspection of the Ormeau Baseball Complex (home of the 2010 Under 14 National Youth Championships) yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, local Council have failed to bring the facility up to at least a minimal standard, despite continuous assurances to both the host club and the ABF that they would. As a result, our inspection of the complex determined that the playing surface on Field 2 is in an unsuitable condition; and in our opinion may pose a threat to anyone that plays on this field. Therefore, this facility has failed to meet minimum standards for the conduct of an ABF event.
In light of this, the ABF, in conjunction with our event host partner, the Beenleigh Baseball Club, have decided to relocate the tournament to the Beenleigh Hawks Baseball Club (located just 10 minutes away from the Ormeau Baseball Complex).
It is bitterly disappointing to both the ABF and Beenleigh Baseball Club that we have been forced to make this decision, but the safety of the players always comes first and we believe this is the right decision for all involved. The change in venue will cause no disruption to the coordination and conduct of the tournament. A revised game schedule will be published later today with all other team arrangements to stay in place. The address for the Beenleigh Baseball Club is: Hammel Street Beenleigh Qld 4207 The ABF apologises if any inconvenience is caused by this change but athlete welfare is our highest priority and we are not prepared to compromise the safety of the players.

Unfortunately, local Council have failed to bring the facility up to at least a minimal standard, despite continuous assurances to both the host club and the ABF that they would. [/i][/quote] This is a shame, but unfortunately was always going to be the case. Some members of the local council seem to have an anti against our sport, and would prefer to spend funds on ground upkeep elsewhere on other sports. There is talk that the second diamond will soon become unavailable all together for baseball, and the main diamond might follow not long after........
