My source tells me we will be called the Brisbane Bite and our colours will be red and blue to be separated from the old rams.

Gee, we are already talking expansion? The Gold Coast team (if there is to be one) has to be called
Monty's men
- after our great pitcher!
No seriously, the Gold Coast will always be the Cougars

I thought there would be some consultation with the paying public in regards to the brisbane team. Guess i was wrong. I like the cougars for the coast. LOL Monty's men... I just got of the phone to him actually and he said he will train even harder this off season( If that is possible ,You know he squeezed in a bodybuilding comp last off season) than last and will push the young guys every step of the way looking for a spot on the roster.Old bas-tard don't know when to quit does he..

The talk with MLB officials 18 mos ago was that as they are under writing the league, most of the players and coaches, initially, will be from US Minor league teams. So, Australian players who have signed could get roster spots, but there won't be any spots for local amateurs.

Bats ? Bite ? Bandits ?? I heard recently that Brisbane Broncos bought out the rights to the old Brisbane Bandits name and company.. Not sure if they still do own the rights however.
Maybe someone can setup a Poll on here with name options we can vote on at the forum once more members login.
If there are 2 Teams.. GC Cougars sounds fin and how about Brisbane or QLD Taipans?

You need locals playing in the comp.
The young fans need to 1) see their local idols/heroes play and 2) see that they have a chance to play in the major comp.
Why would I pay to take my kids to a game full of tourists when the locals are shut out? While we could have 2 or 3 imports, give our guys something realistic to aim for. I am sure there is enough Australian talent out there to fill the comp. Again this would help develop our game, more locals playing, more locals watching, more juniors watching, more juniors playing and the cycle goes on

Isn't the Bite the name of the South Australia team?
The whole point of the ABL being a US Minor League competition is really so that the MLB will fund it. I'm sure it won't be entirely US players, but perhaps for the first few years we have to accept it so it gets off the ground and running

Spot on JRA, if MLB fund the National League they can run it as they like. As far as not identifying with locals we have a lot of young pros that are from Brisbane.
The Gold Coast will always be the cougars? What about the Dolphins before them.?
I doubt whether there will be 2 teams from Qld anyway.

My research says there are currently 16 professional players from Brisbane at this time as well as a handfull of recently released and Independent league players. I'm sure that is plenty for the fans to identify with.

I think the teams, for the first 5 years or so, will be made up mostly of Australian signed players and US minor league players. There's no return, for US MLB clubs, on released or Independent league players. If Qld were to have 2 teams, that would give each timeabout 8 players, out of a 25+ squad.
